Liposculpture

Abdominal etching is an innovative liposuction technique designed to shape “six-pack abs.” This specialized type of liposculpture focuses on selectively removing fat to create a defined, rippled abdomen and a sculpted waist. Initially created for bodybuilders, abdominal etching is now popular among both men and women looking to achieve more pronounced stomach muscles. It is especially favored by men who find it difficult to attain the coveted washboard abs through exercise alone.

Personalize Your Procedure

Dr. Markarian customizes each procedure to fit the individual’s needs, offering both modified etching and full abdominal etching. Many patients opt for the modified version, which highlights the linea alba (the midline of the “six-pack”) and outlines the rectus muscle (the outer edges of the abs). For bodybuilders and those with well-defined existing muscles, Dr. Markarian performs full abdominal etching, which includes additional transverse inscriptions and horizontal lines for a complete six-pack appearance. The procedure involves one or more small, discreet incisions, through which a thin hollow tube called a cannula is inserted to suction out fat. While Dr. Markarian primarily employs liposculpture techniques to emulsify and remove fat, he may also use SmartLipo™ for enhanced results.

Having Liposculpture Surgery

Abdominal etching is conducted under general anesthesia, typically taking 1-2 hours. Most incisions are strategically placed in natural body creases to minimize visible scarring.

Ideal candidates for this surgery are generally at a healthy weight with specific areas of fat. Patients who maintain a regular exercise routine and have good skin tone tend to see quicker results compared to those with softer body contours.
