Otoplasty (Ear Pinning or Ear Reshaping)
Being noticed for your looks can be a good thing, but when prominent or unevenly placed ears draw too much attention, they can become a source of self-consciousness that can damage your positive feelings about yourself and affect your interactions with others.
Ear surgery, or ear pinning, is medically called otoplasty and is a cosmetic procedure that can quickly refine the position of the ears, restoring a more natural appealing look and enhancing self-confidence. Ear reshaping (otoplasty) also improves the shape of the ear to correct the appearance of protruding ears and specialized techniques may also improve deformities of the ear. This is why otoplasty procedures have a 96% worth-it rating on RealSelf.
It also corrects the heavy neck or double chin. Dr. Markarian strives to provide precision in surgical treatment to restore a more youthful, firmer, smoother, and revitalized appearance.
There are a number of procedures available to revitalize the worn, sagging appearance of the neck. They range from very minimal in-office treatments with no downtime to more invasive procedures such as a Boston Facelift procedure or Boston Neck Lift Surgery.
The goals of otoplasty are to reduce overly-prominent ears, improve balance between unevenly positioned ears, and to create a better balance and symmetry of facial features.
Personalize Your Procedure
Dr. Markarian will personalize your procedure – otoplasty is a relatively simple procedure, but it still requires a keen aesthetic eye and advanced level of surgical precision to create optimal results that balance well and create symmetry with your features. A well-versed plastic surgeon, Dr. Markarian is passionate not only about offering precise, up-to-date ear reshaping (otoplasty) techniques but also seeks to create harmony and a naturally balanced look for the patient.
Otoplasty typically requires one small incision behind the ear, through which Dr. Markarian will gently reposition the cartilage of the ear. After healing, the ear will appear at a more natural, less noticeable angle. Many individuals live most of their lives feeling self-conscious about their ears before they turn to otoplasty to correct this problem and create a more balanced, natural appearance. Dr. Markarian is sensitive to the unique needs and expectations of his ear pinning and reshaping patients, and in your consultation will outline your procedure options carefully before recommending an approach that offers the best results for your physiology and aesthetic enhancement goals.
Having Otoplasty Surgery
Otoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia which means you will be asleep and feel nothing during surgery. The surgery itself generally takes 1-2 hours depending on the type of ear surgery procedure being undertaken. Incisions are generally made on the back of the ears where there are creases on the ears so that scarring is minimized or hidden.
After the procedure, your surgeon will apply bandages across your ears to provide you with support and to protect the ears and incision sites. These bandages are typically removed after a few days but it still important to avoid pulling the ears forward or sleeping on your ears for a few weeks.
