Gravity, age, and workplace stress can cause a man’s face to start drooping, and many men in the workplace want to look their absolute best for as long as possible to keep their status in a competitive job market.
Many men feel that they look a decade younger after a facelift, and this restoration can be life-changing. When you look great, you feel great, and achieving your best self requires an experienced surgeon with artistic talent and rich knowledge of the face and its underlying framework.
Dr. Markarian performs his modified deep plane facelift technique to help Boston men achieve long-lasting, total face and neck rejuvenation. Knowing no two faces are the same, Dr. Markarian customizes this technique for every patient, including maintaining and often improving masculine features for his male patients. Dr. Markarian’s tailored approach to the facelift helps men maintain a natural appearance while restoring their youth.
Who Is A Candidate For A Male Facelift?
Men start to consider facelift and neck lift when aging changes in their face and neck become more noticeable. Usually, this happens to men in their 50s and 60s. These changes can include:
- Drooping skin on the cheeks
- Jowling
- Volume loss in the cheeks
- Nasolabial folds
- Muscle banding in the neck
- Sagging skin on the neck

You may be an excellent candidate for a male facelift if:
- You want to improve excess, sagging skin and fat in your face and neck
- You have realistic expectations
- You are ready for the downtime to follow
- You have no underlying medical conditions
- You do not smoke
How Is A Facelift Different For Men Vs. Women?
When delivering facelifts for men, Dr. Markarian keeps a list of key factors in mind that differentiate his approach to facelifts for women. These include:
- Men have specific features that aid their masculinity that must be maintained or highlighted.
- Most men want aesthetic interventions to look as natural as possible and don’t want anyone to know they had cosmetic surgery.
- Men want visible scarring to be minimal, even if they have short hair, receding hairlines, or even baldness.
- Many men have facial hair that they want to maintain after surgery, which means paying close attention to the size and placement of hair follicles during surgery.
- Incision placement that does not hinder a man’s shaving ability.
Male Facelift Recovery: What To Expect
After a male facelift, swelling, bruising, and tightness around the ears are completely normal and will gradually fade with time. We provide patients with a customized plan for pain management ahead of time to minimize discomfort as much as possible during recovery. Dr. Markarian asks patients to return to his office the next day to ensure everything is healing correctly and to remove any dressing around the incisions.
Plan to have someone pick you up from our office after your Boston male facelift, and try to have someone available to take care of you for the first day or two after your surgery. To minimize swelling, apply cold compresses and always keep your head elevated, including when sleeping.
The length of your downtime depends on the extent of your facelift. For men with more severe aging changes, Dr. Markarian typically recommends his specialized deep plane procedure to target deep tissues for dramatic yet natural-looking results that last. While most patients find the results worth the wait, this does warrant a lengthier downtime.
At some point in the second week after a Boston facelift for men, Dr. Markarian requests patients return to his office to have their sutures removed. Most patients feel ready to return to work by the two-week stage.
While it’s safe to start taking light walks one week after your facelift, if you are an active man, it’s essential to be ready to wait for about 4-weeks post-op to return to the gym and slowly return to weight lifting and intense cardio.
The best way to recover quickly and smoothly is to follow the aftercare instructions you receive from your male facelift surgical team.
Combining Other Treatments With A Facelift For Men
Other common areas in which men notice aging changes are the eyes and brows, so blepharoplasty and brow lift are often combined with male facelifts so the eyes and brows look as bright and youthful as the rest of the face.
Most men want a sharp chin and jawline, which can become less noticeable with age. Dr. Markarian may recommend Boston men combine their facelifts with a genioplasty (chin augmentation) or dermal fillers to redefine their chin and jawline.
As much as the facelift turns back the clocks, it does not address fine lines in the forehead and around the eyes. Some men combine their Boston facelift with Botox injections to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles while lifting and tightening their faces.
What Are The Risks Of A Male Facelift?
Every surgical procedure has possible risks. While uncommon, some risks associated with facelift surgery include:
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Nerve injury
- Excessive scarring
- Complications with healing
Dr. Markarian, his anesthesiologist, and the rest of the surgical team will discuss your medical background ahead of your surgery to ensure you are not at risk for any complications during your Boston male facelift.
Scars After Male Facelift: What To Expect
All surgical procedures result in some level of scarring. Dr. Markarian makes facelift scarring as minimal as possible by using his aesthetic eye with his rich knowledge of facial anatomy, hiding major incisions in natural skin folds, around the ears, or in the natural hairline.
How Long Does A Male Facelift Last?
Most Boston men enjoy their face and neck lift results for at least 10-12 years. Cleveland Clinic says the longevity of face and neck lift results are often related to genetics, sun exposure, and lifestyle choices.

Patient Results
65-74 year old man
4 months after Facelift and NeckLift surgery
This patient is shown 4 months following a Face and Neck Lift. The goals are to restore a fuller, rejuvenated face, a sharper, firmer-looking jawline, to eliminate “neck wattles”, and to eliminate “jowling” and sagginess created by loose muscles or excess skin and fat. Most importantly, the overall goal is to create a long-lasting natural-looking result.
